The evening of February 23rd, Collingwood was a sea of bundled up walkers, most adorned in their CNOY blue and white toques. It was the night that the people of South Georgian Bay joined others in 130 communities across Canada for the Coldest Night of the Year, a 2 or 5km family-friendly walk, that raises money for charities serving hungry, homeless, and hurting people. In our community, the walk supported the Home Horizon, Barbara Weider House for youth facing homelessness. Despite being a relatively invisible problem in our community, youth homelessness does exist. The Barbara Weider House provides a safe home, counselling, social and life skills programs to help them successfully rebuild their lives and transition to independent living. The goal for the evening was $60,000 and while the final totals are not yet in, it would appear that it was reached! Congratulations and thanks to all who lent their support!
