Ontario Parks, The Friends of Nancy Island and The Town of Wasaga Beach presented their annual family event at Nancy Island Historic Site in Wasaga Beach on August 13-14. Ships and Sails took people back in time during the War of 1812. Naval re-enactors demonstrated the power of cannon fire and how they defended their ships. Paddlers were able to take a tour on a voyageur canoe down the Nottawasaga River, courtesy of Free Spirit Tours. Some people viewed the wooden remains of the historic ship The HMS Nancy in the nearby museum, while others made their own model to take home. Heritage games and activities like heaving a line and The Powder Monkey Run made the Ships and Sails adventure a fun family day for all.
