Chris and Katie Sweatman purchased Ormsby’s Garden Centre in August 2020, and renamed the business Grey Heron Garden Centre. They are proud to be carrying on the tradition of bringing magic to your gardens! Grey Heron Garden Centre offers a wide selection of plants, garden tools, and materials to create beautiful gardens and spaces – both outdoor and in. They have an incredibly knowledgeable team who can answer the tricky gardening questions and offer excellent products standing behind everything they sell.
When Chris was in his twenties, he worked for his aunts Bette and Doc at their landscaping company, Blue Heron in Muskoka. Through this job, he learned about horticulture, landscaping, and creating beautiful gardens. His aunts taught him from such a young age about the power, beauty, and wonder of getting your hands dirty and making great outdoor spaces.
He believes in including native, edible, and pollinator-attractant plants in gardens and wanted to share that passion with southern Georgian Bay communities. In August 2020, the couple made a giant leap and
purchased Ormsby’s Garden Centre. It was the perfect fit for the passion Chris has for plants, gardens, and landscaping. The name “Grey Heron” represents their history and their future, making Grey County their forever-home, and Blue Heron the spark that started it all.
Lockdowns have led many people to look at their physical surroundings and their home’s beauty, inside and out. Grey Heron is more than just a garden centre. They have many beautiful and unique home décor items and accessories that will bring your indoors to life. Their experienced team is also proud to offer full-service landscaping and consultation.
Gardens are a happy place, and they are an opportunity to connect with nature. When you create gardens, you do more than plant things in the ground. You offer new relationships between soils, pollinators, micro-organisms, and more. There is also something so wondrous about creating gardens. It’s something we love to share. We love the idea of turning a property or a garden space into something that brings joy and that indescribable feeling that a great garden fills you with.
