On August 7th, the Nottawasaga River was host to Rockin’ the River’s inaugural event, organized by the Town of Wasaga Beach, Free Spirit Tours, many musicians, and a tonne of volunteers. People came to canoe, kayak, or stand up paddleboard down the river and hear different musical acts along the way. The river paddle started with Johnny Hawk and Cynthia, who did a blessing on the water along with drumming and singing. Then there were the soothing violin sounds of Victoria Yeh, the fun duo 6 Chickens in the Kitchen, followed by the vibes of Lotus Sound’s didgeridoo and sitar. Next, the music ramped up with the delightful duo Too Nice playing some reggae and ska music, then Ridin’ the Pine, which had everyone dancing in their boats, followed by Chris Scerri and Jon Zaslow, who knocked it out of the park! The Erin McCallum Band played some amazing Blues music, and to finish off, the paddlers were greeted by the band In Dispute. See you on the river next year!
